The coronavirus crisis has made many of us stuck between staying healthy or staying housed. With the loss of our incomes, we may not be able to make rent on April 1st or May 1st. We’re envisioning a future beyond recovery and calling out to our electeds to cancel rent and mortgages and guarantee homes for all!
Rent Parties have deep roots in the Black struggle for freedom, self-determination and mutual aid. We’re bringing back this hundred year old tradition to demand a just response to coronavirus.

Coronavirus is sweeping across the U.S. leaving no one’s life untouched. In order to ensure our collective health and safety, we are being called to practice physical distancing and, for those of us who have housing, our homes have become sanctuaries protecting us from illness. Yet in the next week, many of us will be unable to pay our rent, utilities or mortgages.
On April 1st, our homes, health, and collective safety are on the line. Landlords and banks are expecting payment as if it’s business as usual. It’s not. True health in our community means everyone has a home to be safe and secure in without fear that they may lose it in the coming months.
This is our time to demand more than a return to the status quo that kept so many of us living on the brink of crisis. Join us in the call to decision makers to protect our communities by cancelling rent, mortgage and utility payments and ensure homes for all!

El coronavirus ha barrido el país y ha tocado la vida de toda la población. En un acto de solidaridad generalizado, estamos ejerciendo distanciamiento físico y, para aquelles que tenemos vivienda, nuestros hogares se han convertido en santuarios que nos protegen de enfermedades. Sin embargo, en la próxima semana, muches de nosotres no podremos pagar nuestro alquiler, servicios públicos o hipotecas.
El 1 de abril, nuestros hogares, salud y seguridad colectiva estarán en juego. Les propietaries y los bancos esperan el pago como si fueran tiempos normales. No lo son. Para lograr verdadera salud en nuestra comunidad, todes tienen que tener un hogar sano y seguro, sin temor de perderlo en los próximos meses.
Este es nuestro momento de exigir más que un regreso al status quo que mantuvo a muches de nosotres viviendo al borde de la crisis. ¡Únete a nosotres en el llamado a reclamarle a los responsables de la toma de decisiones a que protejan nuestras comunidades – a que cancelen los pagos de alquiler, hipoteca y servicios públicos y garanticen viviendas para todes!
